Make sure you have git installed on your local machine to use the git command
Navigate into the project directory:
cd <project-name>
3. Create and Activate a Virtual Environment
Next, we'll need to set up a virtual environment for our project. This is important because it creates an isolated Python environment for our project (we don't want Python project versions overriding each other).
Create the virtual environment by running this command :
python -m venv venv
Activate the virtual environment :
- Windows
- MacOS/Linux
venv\Scripts\activate
source venv/bin/activate
4. Apply Database Migration
Run migrations to create database schema:
python manage.py migrate
5. Collect Static Files
The project uses static files (CSS, JS, etc.), run this command to collect them:
python manage.py collectstatic
6. Run the Development Server
Start the server to test the application locally:
python manage.py runserver
